Records 1929-1973; 1949-1973

This series consists of 17 folders containing records from 1929 and 1949-1973, all of which relate to the involvement of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) and The American Lutheran Church (TALC) Department of Home Missions deployment of missionaries serving in its fields in Alaska known as the Eskimo Mission. There are typewritten reports from the missions to the boards containing information on budgets, recommendations, allowances, salary information, minutes, individual member information and needs of the missions. There is also handwritten and typed correspondence between the missionary Helen Frost and the Minnesota-stationed the Rev. P. S. Dybvig. In addition to the correspondence and annual reports, there are individual reports of the daily work conducted by Henriette Lund and Pastor Dybvig. There is also a folder containing publications, newspaper articles and brochures about the Eskimo missions and surrounding Alaskan news. There are also folders containing committee papers. In these folders are typed correspondence between board members, as well as minutes and long range goals for the missions. The bulk of the records are between 1960 and 1973. The annual reports have the most polished accounts of what happened from year to year. There is a single sheet of member attendance from one of the missions in 1929, but there is very little information to be gleaned from it. The bulk of the records related to the Eskimo mission work is at the ELCA Region 3 Archives, St. Paul, Minnesota. The correspondences between Frost and Dybvig hold excellent bits of information on the day to day life and actual individual members.
